Photosafari, once again, is organising a photosafari trip to photograph the PACU JAWI (Bull racing) in Padang. This is a short 3 days and 2 night’s trip to Padang, Indonesia.
The excitement of witnessing a pair of bulls rushing towards you is exhilarating. It is an adrenaline rush as you try to avoid being run over by the bulls at the finishing line. There is nowhere safe in the water filled rice fields where the event is held.
Besides the excitement of the Pacu Jawi, we will also be going to a fishing village for sunset and perhaps a cock-fighting event (to be confirmed)
You will not go hungry, Padang is famous for its Nasi Padang and seafood. It is going to be an exciting and relaxing weekend to be spent in the company of fellow photographers.
Background of Pacu Jawi
Pacu Jawi used to be an event that is held after the rice is harvested. Farmers would bring their young bulls to sell at this festival. They would often hire jockeys to ride the bulls and buyers would come around to pick and buy their bulls for their next rice planting season. However, in this modern times, this social event is held for visitors and the kampong folks to gather around.
