Black and White Films available in Malaysia
The B&W medium has gone into a niche market. It is no longer available in any supermarkets, photography shops or the chemist any more. So where do B&W aficionados get their supplies?
When I started specializing in the traditional B&W medium some 10 years ago, it was really an uphill task. I went around Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Singapore trying to get my hands on whatever films, chemicals and papers that were available in the market. I also hunt around trying to engage old retired darkroom workers to learn the soon to be forgotten technique of this more than 100 year old craft. I also search the net for resources and techniques of this craft.
I started a darkroom in my home…converting a small guest room into a darkroom. I was lucky to come across a darkroom set that includes a Nova Quad processor (vertical print processor) that saves space and was mounted onto a mobile trolley that can be put away when it is not used.
