I went to KLPF yesterday when the crowds were thinner. Met up with some old friends in the camera industry. Most people were lamenting that the sales of digital cameras this year were not encouraging at all. There was very little technology advancement that had excited the consumers in the earlier years. I had some time to go around most of the stalls and came across Fujifilm’s counter
I have always want to print pictures and give it to our subjects during our photosafari travels. In fact, a lot of subjects have asked for their pictures but we were unable to do much about it. There was an instance in our last Photosafari trip to Tibet, a few of our subjects gave us their email or house addresses for us to send them their pictures. There was a girl we met in Xining who came all the way to Lhasa to collect her pictures from one of our participants.
We were toying with the idea of bringing a Canon Selphy Printer but then it was bulky and need an electric plug to make it work. Those units with rechargeable batteries were expensive. Then during our last trip to Ethiopia, one of the participants brought a Fuji Instax. He had all the subjects crowding around him whenever he took out this camera. Hey! That was fun, we thought.
So seeing the latest Fuji Instax Mini 90 on sale at KLPF at a bargain price with a twin pack of instax films thrown in was a clincher. So here I am with a low tech but high touch camera that suits my needs. Why didn’t I think of this before? Will be reviewing this camera soon. So watch out for this space.
