Hotan or Hetian is famous for its jade. The pure white translucent jade found in the Tarim river was used by the Imperial Court for various artifacts from royal seals to ornaments.
This was the regular evening market at the heart of Hotan. We went there in autumn of 2011 on the Old Silk Road photosafaritrip.
