We were invited by a friend in Tabuelan to witness a local cock fighting match there. I have been to witness a lot of cock fighting matches, however, this is the first time I was seeing the most brutal cock fighting match in my entire life. Cock fighting was a favourite pastime of the local people. Hobbyist spent lots money maintaining this pastimes. I was told that a good fighting cock is sold around US$500 each.

The place was a make shift covered arena. At the centre of the arena was a raised square barricade with viewing panels on the side. Razor sharp knives were tied to the feet of the cocks. The handlers will bring the cocks into the arena and let the cocks faced each other. This is more a psychological action to let the cocks size up each other. The cocks were then released and the fight began. I must say the fighting was ferocious, the loser did not have a chance to run away like other cock fights. It will be serious cut and bleeding profusely. The only way out was death. In this match however, the fight was stopped when one of the cocks fell and was too exhausted to get up.
