Maxby Chan is an Administrator of PhotoSafari.com.my and an ex-administrator of PhotoMalaysia.com. Apart from teaching and writing photography articles, Maxby regularly gives talks, reviews photography equipment, and conducts street shooting walkabouts. He has regularly contributed travel articles catering for photographers and traveller readers of the Vietnam Air in-flight magazine, DigitalSLR, and Aperture magazines.

In advancing his childhood dream as a travel photographer, he has organised more than a hundred specialised photo trips for members and photo enthusiasts to various parts of the world under the photosafari banner.

Organiser of Photo Exhibitions

He has also organised more than nine public photography exhibitions. “Guerrilla Photography Exhibition” was his latest brainchild. Since its inception in 2012, the Guerrilla Photography Exhibition has held its fifth exhibition to date. The idea of a freestyle photography exhibition without curators has caught on and aspiring photographers have been discovered on this platform.

Social Responsibility

In May 2015, Maxby responded to the call for help after the 7.8 Richter scale earthquake struck Nepal. He organised a self-help aid group called “Adopt-a-Village” to help villagers recover from this natural calamity. Many well-wishers and friends have donated generously to this project. He has personally made several trips to Laprak Village, (a village that was at the epicentre of the earthquake) to assess the situation and provide aid. Their project of helping Laprak Villagers recover from the Earthquake has been completed after two years of continuous effort. Their latest project is the construction and completion of a mini hydroelectric power plant for the entire village.

Promoting the Photography Community

He has been selfless in committing his time to promote and improve photography standards for more than 80,000+ members of PhotoMalaysia.com and PhotoSafari.com.my.
